Like the rest of the fans, young Brian McDonnell was not able to bring his camera so he simply brought the roll of film, tossed it on the phase, and wished for the very best. Depeche Mode were likewise young back then, formed only 3 years previously. Their debut album Speak & & Spell was introduced in 1981, so the pictures they took show the very young members of the band in what appears to be a dressing space. Which, when I consider it, is even much better and definitely more personal than images from the performance.

Sadly, Brian died after suffering a heart attack 20 years earlier at only 37 years of age. His sis, Anne McDonnell-Lawrence, only just recently shared the pictures Depeche Mode took, revealing that her brother was a life-long Depeche Mode fan. Similar to yours genuinely, by the way.
” Depeche Mode was his preferred, he constantly raved them,” Anne told the BBC. “All I remember is him informing me he was at the show and he had brought a movie for a video camera with him– he wrapped his name and address around it and asked them to take photos and send them back to him.”
Anne reveals that brian never thought he would even get an action. :
” I do not know for how long after, but he got the film returned to him. That was all images of Depeche Mode.”
Anne stated that Brians anniversary was in August this year, and how that is a very long time. She included that the attention around the photos is simply what he would have enjoyed
“Brian loved being the centre of attention, he liked to celebration, he liked to sing,” she stated. Although 20 years is a long time, she stated that this is Brian stating to her “Youre not paying me any longer attention, I want attention.” “I think he set it up,” she adds.
Even today, fans arent enabled to bring “severe” cameras, often even phones, to performances and celebrations. Anything with an interchangeable lens is not enabled, however the majority of venues and performers enable that quite good camera that also occurs to make telephone call. needless to say, it wasnt an alternative back in the 80s, so I truly loved this concept, and the reality that Depeche Mode played along.

Back in the 1980s, fans werent enabled to bring their electronic cameras to performances, but a Depeche Mode fan had an idea. He tossed a roll of movie on stage during the bands performance with his name and address connected to it and a plea to the bend to take pictures.
It wasnt only the idea that was cool, it was the bands reaction, too. They got the movie, took some photos, and later on mailed them back to the fan. His widow just recently shared them online and the story made my heart melt.
