Give Real Feedback or Say Nothing

Offer Genuine Feedback or State Nothing

The majority of feedback sounds like this:

Offer an example if you really desire to be heard and you desire to be handy. No example, no feedback.

Feeling evaluated makes people defensive. When people are protective, its hard to listen.

Unclear favorable feedback sounds inauthentic. Unclear unfavorable feedback is judgmental. Neither reinforces your relationship or are practical.

Youre awesome.
Good task.
Perfectly done.
Youre cutting corners.
You have an attitude problem.
Youre not committed.
Youre careless.
Youre disengaged.

There is a factor you believe the person is amazing or has an attitude problem. What did they do that produced that impression? Till you can describe what the individual did to produce an impression, youre not ready to provide feedback. Youre better off stating nothing.

The function of feedback is to help another individual. Give the individual sufficient information that they know what to duplicate and what to change. Prior to you offer feedback, make a note of three things the person did that produced your impression. If you cant provide an example, wait to have the conversation until you can. Its better to state nothing than to say something vague and unhelpful.

Im uncertain why, I wish I might offer you an excellent factor, but the vague expressions above are what come out of peoples mouths very first when offering feedback. To prevent providing fake feedback, you have to prepare.
