How to Make Time for Creativity

Create the space for the magic to take place.

At initially, this might feel like a selfish act, but in reality, its one of the finest things you can do for others. When you prioritize your imagination as a needs to have rather than a good to have, it allows you to bring your finest self to every other interaction.

My schedule is set up in 90-minute blocks. This is what works for me, however I encourage you to experiment with your own creative schedule. Discover out what works best for you and stick with it.

Time is limited. There is always something to be doing or thinking of. Expenses, groceries, laundry, workout, good friends, events, work, kids, etc. The appeal of keeping a schedule is providing yourself area and clearness of mind to focus on a single job at hand, prior to moving onto the next. If you told me in my twenties that being strenuous about my schedule would be a major differentiator in the success of my imaginative work, I would have stated, youre insane. In my mind, schedules just restricted the creative process.

Rigor and discipline are needed to achieve anything, even things you delight in and enjoy. The more disciplined you can be about devoting to and sticking with a schedule that helps you stay on your course, the more chance will open up to you.

How do you like to create? What do you need in your environment to draw out your finest work? Set it up. Maya Angelou utilized to schedule a hotel room to operate in every day from 7AM-after lunch. She did this because she understood if she didnt purposefully produce that time and space for herself, her attention and focus would be drawn in other instructions.
